1999 Strategic Planning Guidelines for the Greater Dublin Area

The Regional Reports of the Dublin and Mid-East Regional Authorities in 1996 recommended that a there was a need for regional planning guidelines for the Greater Dublin Area which would guide infrastructure investment with an integrated planning policy so that a strategic approach to managing the growth of Dublin could be achieved. To this end all seven local authorities, the two regional authorities and the Department of Environment worked together alongside a consultant consortium contracted to produce the document. The Strategic Planning Guidelines for the Greater Dublin Area (SPGGDA) were published in 1999.

These Guidelines were given statutory recognition as Regional Planning Guidelines in the Planning and Development Act 2000 under Section 21 (4). They have now been superseded by the Regional Planning Guidelines for the Greater Dublin Area 2004-2016 and subsequently by the 2010 Regional Planning Guidelines.
